26 December – Boxing Day Bargain hunting in Belfast

It’s Boxing Day here (I know Boxing Day doesn’t exist everywhere – it’s just 26 December most places in the world).

Traditionally there area few options for Boxing Day:

  • Meet up with more friends/relatives for another large meal – often another full Christmas Dinner with all the extras too
  • Stay home, playing with new presents, eating leftovers, and not having to cook at all
  • Head out for a brisk and healthy walk, preferably along a windswept beach
  • Go SALE shopping – traditionally Boxing Day is the big sale day here (a bit like Black Friday after Thanksgiving for our American friends), although many shops start their Sales well before Christmas

This year we have opted to a combination of some of the above – one member of the family had to go back to work (although he didn’t have to work on Christmas Day), some chose to stay home, and two of us felt the call of the post-Christmas sales in Belfast.  We will ALL be enjoying Christmas dinner leftovers later – why does stuffing taste even better on Boxing Day?

Anyway, back to the Sales shopping in Belfast.

We started in House of Fraser, and stopped off at New Look, Boots, Debenhams, DV8, Fat Face, Top Shop, Coast, Accessorize, Monsoon and Phase Eight!

We were in by 9.30am and home before 12!

My only purchases were in Fat Face (which had the best bargains and the longest queues) , but my daughter was successful in New Look, DV8, Fat Face and Accessorize and we enjoyed browsing to make sure we weren’t missing anything!!!

Our only disappointment was that Lush Cosmetics (one of my daughter’s favourites) didn’t open until 12 noon, and we opted not to wait around.

I know for some, after all the pre-Christmas shopping, the last place many want to be is back in the shops, but we had a pleasant morning and were home before the traffic and parking got too crazy.

How did you spend your Boxing Day?
