Hellebores in the garden – Christmas Roses and Lenten Roses

My parents are wonderful gardeners, and when we were visiting I took some photos of their collection of hellebores (no, I didn’t know what they were called either – my parents told me!).

I knew their more common name of “Christmas Rose” but I have also learned they are called “Lenten Roses” as they often bloom during Lent – as these ones are doing.

Here are a selection

I love the delicate soft shades, especially when there is not much colour in the rest of the garden.

Do you have a favourite winter flower?  Are you a gardener? I love to admire the hard work of others, but have yet to inherit the skills of my parents! Maybe it is skipping a generation, and my kids will be better gardeners.
