Children’s Gift Ideas for Christmas – Ikea book and toy review

I was recently given the opportunity to review some of the Ikea toys which are part of their annual charity campaign.

IKEA are back again with their annual Soft Toy Campaign! For every soft toy and children’s book sold between October 21st and December 23rd 2012 the IKEA Foundation will donate €1 to UNICEF and Save the Children, to support worldwide education programs, ensuring more children around the world can go to school.  This yearly campaign has so far raised a total of €47.4 million since 2003 and has helped improve the lives of more than eight million vulnerable children.

As part of their new woodland range I spotted a cute hedgehog toy and book which I chose to review.

My 8 year old son loves anything to do with animals and nature, but he much prefers non-fiction books full of facts, so I was keen to see what he would make of a story book for a change.

As you can see from the photographs, he and “Mr Fluffy” were soon acquainted. He really enjoyed the story, which is beautifully illustrated, and a perfect book for autumn as it tells of how the hedgehog is looking for a place to hibernate for the winter. He meets lots of different woodland animals along the way.

My son has taken “Mr Fluffy” to bed, to school and on various adventures around the house, and particularily enjoyed posing him in his Star Pupil cup he received this week.

At only £2 (with £1 of that being donated to charities) Mr Fluffy (aka Vandring Igelkott) would be a perfect wee treat for Santa to include in the stocking.  The beautiful book Vandring The Hedgehog Leaves Home is also great value for such high quality hard backed book – full price is £5, but only £3.50 if you have are an Ikea Family Member.

Disclaimer – Ikea provided the book and toy for review, but all opinions expressed are my own (or my son’s!)
