When I was but a lad, wending my weary
way to Wallace from Belsize, we would stop at this fountain, at the corner of the cricket pitch, for suitable refreshment, if memory serves me correctly, that is!. I remember it had a push-down metal lever. We never even looked at the ornate metalwork.
I well remember them in the ’50s and ’60s…..and the low-level ones with the metal handles which squirted the water into the air.
