St Patrick’s Day Parade in Belfast 2011

This morning, as has become my tradition since I started blogging, I went into Belfast to photograph the St Patrick’s Day parade in Belfast.

This year I chose a vantage point of just opposite the City Hall.

There was lots of colour, both in the parade, and in the watching crowd. It is the only day in the year in Belfast when you see more than just the tourists wearing silly green hats!

I particularily liked this float representing the Harland and Wolfe shipyard (where the Titanic was built)

This was my first venture out for more than just coffee since my operation 2 weeks ago, and I am certainly more tired and sore than I have been in days. I’ll just have to be a bit more patient – and patience is not one of my strengths!

My thoughts and prayers continue to be with the people of Japan, and especially Sue, who has moved with her children further south.

What have you done today?

Remember to link up to my St Patrick’s Day Blogging Carnival – I bought some prizes today for some of the participants….it could be you!

  1. Thanks so much for posting your photos from the Belfast St. Patrick’s Day parade, JanMary! Makes me feel like I was there! I’m glad you were able to get out and hope your recovery goes quickly and well. My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Japan, too.

I mainly focused on St. Patrick’s Day colors and foods (sort of) today – fun anyway! Happy St. Patrick’s Day from Colorado Springs, Colorado!

  2. Awesome pictures – looks like lots of fun! Wish we were there to celebrate with you!

We had a quiet St Patrick’s day (I don’t even have green clothes that will fit!!)… Jason went to work & then played soccer, I paid bills & took the car in for new tires, we ate a late take-out meal & watched tv. Boring, yes, but I’m not one for a whole lot of excitement these days! 🙂

  3. That looks like FUN! I love the pictures, the color, the looks on the people’s faces. You certainly captured the moment for us to see.

  4. St. Patrick’s Day has never been a big day for me, but if I could celebrate it in Ireland? I bet I’d enjoy it a lot more! As long as I didn’t stand downwind from any corned beef and cabbage. Blech.
