I am fine – honestly!

This morning I had the unpleasant experience of someone accessing my email account, blog etc, and sending out a distressing email to my friends and contacts.

I was allegedly in Spain, having been mugged, and of course I needed you to send me money!

It was spotted quickly, and I was touched by the number of people who contacted me by phone to warn me or check that I was OK – including several international phone calls!! It is lovely to know so many care.

So I am fine, thankfully and a bit unnerved.

Not my usual positive post, but hope that is the end of it.

  1. Good thing it was a hoax. I was trying to figure out where I could send U.S. dollars and have them converted to Euros! Anything to help and glad you are all okay!

  2. Phew – I was pretty sure it wasn’t real, but good to hear it from you :)! And it had the added bonus of causing me to visit your blog, which I had gotten out of the habit of during my busy summer. Lucky me – everything looks lovely as usual!! ~Jess

  3. I didn’t think you were in spain either as I just checked my emails and read it – glad your okay though and what idiot wants to do that to someone’s email account? Atleast you are headed to a nice long vacation!!! Seriously though when you are here in the states call if you need anything!!!

  4. I knew immediately it was spam – ugh, what a huge PITA, JM! Glad to know you were not mugged at gunpoint.

  9. Figured it was spam as well – from the part about Spain and it being unlikely that you’d send a mass email to everyone rather than calling trusted friends or family for help. Glad to hear it anyhow! 🙂

  10. so sorry, glad you’re ok physically, but it must be emotionally draining! I knew the e-mail was a scam, and just thought “really?! did they think people would just send money no questions asked?!” I hate these stupid scam e-mails!

  11. Sorry to hear of that. I don’t know why people spend their time trying to scam others. It doesn’t make any sense to me. Glad that so many people responded so quickly. Carla

  12. Glad to hear everything is ok and you are well! I just read the email and I was pretty sure it wasn’t real because I can´t remember a post from you about holidays in Spain.

  17. Thank you all for your concern 🙂

Definitely one way to get your stats and comments up, but not one that I would recommend!

  18. That is dreadful! I didn’t believe for a second that you send such an email, but I am sure glad to have you definitely confirm that it wasn’t true. Just yucky that someone did that to you. People like them need to find other things to do with their time instead of trying to get money for nothing through forgery.

  20. That’s really disgusting what this person has done to you. And if she or he thought that it was funny, it is not ! This person also must be very stupid, because robbery with a gun in SPAIN seems really ridiculous. Guns are illegal and certainly not used for a little tourist hold up. A knife would have been more logical or not even that. 800 € is not even worthwhile. Then instead of sending emails to your friends, there are other means for help. There is your travel assistance and the emabassy ! This person should inform herself or himself before writing such stupid things !She or he is reading too many crime stories !

  21. I thought it was obviously poorly written and couldn’t have possibly been from you, but I admit I was a tad worried. I’m a sucker, what can I say. LOL. I’m glad you fixed it. Have a great vaca!

  22. Hi Jan just came back to see what happened! I contacted one of your friends that morning and she quickly wrote me back and told me it was in fact fake and I was so glad! I thought it was and I am SO sorry this happened!
